5 Things to Know Before Visiting Guanacaste Province in Costa Rica

When traveling I always think about the memories and stories I could bring back home, the anecdotes I can tell my family about, or even just all those impactful stories I can share on my social media that will get people talking about.

Well, I discovered all of that and more in a paradise within another paradise, - “a cherry on top” - Guanacaste, Costa Rica. In hopes you will experience as much joy as I did, I made a list of five things you should know before visiting this delightful place called Guanacaste.

1. A wave of forests and landscapes

When you arrive to Guanacaste, you will be surprised to learn that there are four different types of forests in an array of different colors. From deep greens to golden leaves at the last stage of their lives, you can experience the rainforests, mangroves, cloud forests, and the majestic tropical dry forests - all filled with a great variety of animal species, birds, monkeys, and even deer. It almost feels like you are on a safari tour in Africa.

While traveling by car, motorcycle, or even on horseback, you get the perfect chance to admire the large savannas and magnificent Guanacaste trees that make you wish to leave everything behind and just relax under its broad and fresh shadow.

2. Beaches as irreverent as they are relaxing

Guanacaste’s beaches can be considered one of the meccas for surfing, snorkeling, or diving. Or take a boat tour and just sit back to admire one of the most beautiful sunsets you can witness in your lifetime. But well, it is that combination of turquoise waters and dangerously wild waves that make it the faultless paradise for either relaxation or high adrenaline. Trust me, if you are a sea lover, Guanacaste has the best beaches in Costa Rica. It should be on your bucket list of dream destinations to visit in the world.

3. Blue Zone. Yes, a Blue Zone!

Nicoya, a district in Guanacaste, is one of the five international Blue Zones that exist worldwide. It means means that it is a place where life expectancy is the longest.

Nicoya is a Blue Zone mainly because of the wellness and healthy lifestyle practiced by people living in the area. the well-balanced and nutritious daily diet is mostly composed of fresh corn and milk, meat, and fruits and vegetables harvested in the most fertile soils. Of course, you can’t ignore the happiness and kindness of the locals there that attribute to the longevity of their lives. If you’re looking for Pura Vida in Costa Rica, you can most definitely find it in Guanacaste.

4. A rush of energy

As someone passionate about environmental conservation, visiting one of the countries that lead the sustainability efforts in the world is already fulfilling. However, when I found out that Guanacaste alone generates five different types of renewable energies in the world, saying that I was impressed would be an understatement. Yes, in Guanacaste, energy is produced in diverse forms like geothermic, solar, hydroelectric, wind, and biomass. These contribute to the 100% renewable national energy matrix in the exclusive worldwide club. Without a doubt, Guanacaste is a role model for sustainability.

5. If I like it, I will stay!

Yes, that is what thousands of foreign nationals have thought as they decide to work from or retire in Guanacaste. Due to political stability, health care, economic freedom, and all of the natural beauties it has, this Costa Rica’s province has become one of the top places for digital nomads from all across the globe (according to the Retirement World Index in 2022).

Guanacaste has one of the most important innovation development hubs with aeronautical, business, and research logistics of the region,. In addition, you can find the headquarters of the company that built the first-ever plasma engine in the world. And to add to all of this, one of the best airports in Latin America, according to the ACI, is also located in Guanacaste. I personally can can conclude that indeed, Guanacaste is without a doubt the cherry on top.

In my personal opinion, Guanacaste, Costa Rica, is one of the “Must Do” trips for 2022. And trust me, you will like it so much you wish you could stay here forever. By the way, in my next blog, I will share something that changed my life while I was in Guanacaste.

Until next time!

Pura Vida
